Stump Grinders Scotland
ILH Groundcare is Scotland's go-to stump grinder specialist, supplying the full FSI range and servicing all major brands.
Arborists, tree surgeons, and grounds maintenance teams across Scotland rely on us for sales, hire, servicing, and parts, all backed by a team that was operating and repairing grinders long before we started selling them.
Family-run since 2007. Over 20 years of hands-on experience means the advice you get comes from the workshop floor, not a spec sheet.
Why Our Customers Love Us
Why ILH for Stump Grinders?
We started working with stump grinders over a decade before we began selling them. That means the team advising you on which grinder to buy or hire has actually operated these machines on real jobs, not just read the brochure.
We know the practical difference between a pedestrian and tracked grinder, which model handles different timber species, and when it’s worth stepping up to a bigger machine.
Based in Cumbernauld, just off the M80 in the Central Belt, we cover all of Scotland from Glasgow and Edinburgh to the Highlands and beyond. Arborists, tree surgeons, landscapers, councils, and grounds maintenance contractors across Scotland rely on us for honest advice and proper support.
Stump Grinders for Sale
We sell the full FSI stump grinder range, covering both pedestrian and tracked configurations. The pedestrian lineup covers five walk-behind models suited to different workloads, from occasional domestic use through to daily grinding for busy tree surgery crews. They’re designed for tight-access work in domestic gardens and residential sites, fitting through standard garden gates and handling most stumps a tree surgeon or landscaper encounters on day-to-day jobs.
The self-propelled range includes several tracked and wheeled configurations, with options for radio remote control so the operator can stand back from the cutting wheel during grinding.
The tracked versions drive to the stump under their own power and handle soft ground, slopes, and difficult access that pedestrian units can’t reach. These are the machines dedicated stump removal contractors, grounds maintenance teams, and busy tree surgery operations buy.
We also carry used grinders across various brands when stock is available. Call 0141 775 9288 for current pricing on any model.
Stump Grinder Hire
Our hire fleet includes pedestrian and tracked stump grinders, serviced in our workshop between every hire. You get a machine with sharp carbide teeth, checked hydraulics, and an engine that starts first time, not a grinder that’s been sent out without attention between jobs.
We offer daily, weekly, and longer-term rates. If you’re a tree surgeon who grinds stumps occasionally rather than every day, hiring makes more sense than buying because you get the right machine for each job without the capital outlay.
A pedestrian grinder handles the domestic garden stumps, while a tracked machine makes short work of larger hardwood stumps on commercial sites or council contracts. You pick the machine that fits the job rather than making one machine fit everything. For contractors on longer projects, we put together rates for the full duration rather than charging day by day.
Delivery and collection across Scotland is available, or collect from our Cumbernauld workshop. We’ll walk you through the controls on handover so you’re confident before you start, and phone support is available throughout the hire if
Stump Grinder Servicing
Our Cumbernauld workshop handles routine servicing, cutting wheel maintenance, hydraulic repairs, engine work, and full rebuilds on stump grinders from all the major manufacturers. We service and repair FSI, Predator, Carlton, Vermeer, and Bandits grinders, so whatever brand you run, we can maintain it properly.
Typical workshop jobs include carbide tooth replacement, cutting wheel bearing changes, hydraulic hose repairs, belt replacements, and full engine servicing. A grinder sitting in the workshop is a grinder not earning money, so we turn jobs around as fast as we can to get you back on site.
We also carry out pre-purchase inspections if you’re buying a used grinder privately and want a professional assessment of condition before you commit.
Stump Grinder Spare Parts
We stock genuine spare parts at our workshop, including carbide cutting teeth, belts, bearings, hydraulic components, and common wear items. Carbide teeth are the part that wears fastest, especially on hardwood stumps and abrasive ground with stones or soil. Running blunt teeth doesn’t just slow you down. It overloads the cutting wheel, the engine, and the hydraulic drive, which shortens the life of everything else on the machine.
Most parts are available same-day if you collect from Cumbernauld, or next-day delivery across the UK. If you run a different brand and need parts sourced, get in touch. We can often supply or source components for Carlton, Vermeer, and other makes through our trade network.
What Can Stump Grinders Be Used For?
Stump grinders remove tree stumps by chipping the wood below ground level, turning the stump and its surface roots into a pile of mulch. After a tree has been felled, the remaining stump can sit in the ground for years, getting in the way of landscaping, new planting, construction, and mowing. Grinding removes it completely without the disruption of digging it out with a digger, which tears up the surrounding ground and leaves a much bigger hole to fill.
Tree surgeons grind stumps as part of their standard removal service, either on the day of felling or as a follow-up visit. Landscapers clear old stumps before turfing, paving, or planting new beds.
Councils and housing associations grind stumps in parks, housing estates, and along roadsides where they create trip hazards or obstruct maintenance. On development sites, contractors grind stumps across cleared land before foundations and groundworks begin.
Pedestrian grinders handle most domestic and light commercial stumps. For larger hardwood stumps, stumps on slopes, or high-volume clearance work, a tracked self-propelled grinder does the job faster and reaches places a pedestrian unit can’t.
